Throughout human history, Shaitan has remained constantly engaged in trying to pull people in the direction opposite to where they should be going. He leads many into sin, doubts and even disbelief. Plotting, scheming and contriving is his very nature. He doesn't give up, but the muttaqeen have a means of ridding themselves of him. Whenever the devil approaches the Allah-fearing people and tries to lure them into evil, their remembrance of Allah سبحانہ وتعالیshields them from him.
Allah سبحانہ وتعالی mentions this method of countering instigations in Surah Al-A'raf:
“Surely when those who fear Allah are touched by any instigation from Shaitan, they become conscious (of Allah), and at once they discern (the reality).”
(Surah Al- A'raf: verse 201)
They seek protection with Allah and immediately realize the open enemy is employing his tactics. This helps in protecting them from evil.
Being conscious of Allah سبحانہ وتعالی or remembering Him is an act that someone who loves Allah سبحانہ وتعالی naturally engages in. And Allah سبحانہ وتعالی has made it an effective method of dealing with Shaitan who is endlessly sneaking and whispering into people's hearts.
According to a Hadith, Shaitan sits firmly upon a person's heart and retreats only when the person engages in Allah's remembrance. Once he stops the dhikr, Shaitan resumes his vigilance upon the heart and casts evil thoughts in the heart. (Mishkat)
Let's turn our hearts toward Allah, keep Him in our minds and hearts, in our thoughts and feelings, as the goal we want to attain through every action we perform. May our hopes forever be pinned on Him alone. The consciousness of the Supreme Being will thwart every attack by our enemy, In sha’ Allah.
